MSIS at Penn State Harrisburg

The MSIS equips students with advanced technical, managerial, and analytical competencies required to strategize, plan, design, and manage strategic IT initiatives that enable an organization to achieve strategic business objectives and create a competitive advantage.

The Master of Science in Information Systems (MSIS) is a STEM-designated program that equips students with advanced technical, managerial, and analytical competencies required to strategize, plan, design, and manage strategic IT initiatives that enable an organization to achieve strategic business objectives and create a competitive advantage.

A STEM-designated degree allows eligible graduates an Optional Practical Training (OPT) extension for up to 36 months, helping graduates gain additional real-world skills and experiences.

The MSIS is highly flexible to accommodate both full- and part-time students. To provide flexibility for students, some courses are also offered online or in a hybrid format (i.e., a blend of resident instruction and online). Students should contact the program office for information on specific semester course offerings.

MSIS graduate assistantships available

Graduate assistantships are offered for fall and spring semesters for one year. All graduate assistants must be enrolled full-time (3 classes/12 credits) for both the fall and spring semesters. 

Typical GA work duties include:

  • Assisting faculty in research and special projects
  • Laboratory instruction
  • Tutoring undergraduate students
  • Grading assignments
  • Working on other academic unit initiatives

Note that MSIS candidates interested in being considered for an interview for graduate assistantship funding must apply to the program no later than March 1 for fall matriculation. The MSIS application serves as the Graduate Assistant application and competitive GRE or GMAT scores are required.
