Harrisburg Jan. 5th1964 Tuesday
Last week I received a letter from you. Your sister did not put the
letter into Mr. Foster['s] box, but James McCormick sent it since &
I suppose you got it. Martie wrote you a letter on last Wednesday, but
she overeat herself at a couple of parties & was sick one night
trying to throw up, & for a day or two afterwards; and her letter
did not get into the mail until I put it in on Saturday. She was well
enough on Sunday to go to Church. Today she went to school as it opened
for a new term. She is to take music lefsons [sic?]. Martie says the
skating is good, but covered by a light snow. I paid Einsteins for the
dres [sic?]. It is probably in your haste you forgot it. Sweeny the
Clerk says he sold it to you & you took it out with you, and he
charged it in the book-could be qualified to it...and says if you paid
you must have come back & paid some other person in the store. It
is well it was no more. I am pleased to hear that you party had such
a pleasant time during the Hollidays [sic]. On Christmas near 1000 persons
were on the pond. People here seemed to enjoy themselves. Today they
are trying to sleigh, but it won't do. I wish you could find out and
let me know when your new Sefsion [sic?] begins; and if you can, how
much money you will need, and when.
We are all well. My eyes are much better. I had a letter
a few days ago from Hampy. He has not much to do and thinks they may
dispense with him, which I hope they will not do. Mamie and her 3 aidecamps
are well. Today our Legislature meets, and we have quite a crowd of
strangers. Aunt Jane's boarding house is very full. Chris Frazer is
married to Mr. McWilliams. She must [be?] ten years the elder. Today
the weather is very fine.
Yours truly
Herman Alricks
