Biography
The son of James McCormick, Thomas was an immigrant to this land, being
born in Ulster, Ireland in about 1702. He married Elizabeth
Carruth (b. 1705) about 1726, and made the voyage to America along
with his brother, Hugh. In 1745, he and his wife took out a warrant
for 100 acres of land in Hanover Township, then Lancaster County, PA,
next relocating west of the Susquehanna river, in East Pennsboro, where
he stayed until he died, in 1762.
Although no documents relating to Elizabeth and Thomas are represented
in the McCormick papers, we include Elizabeth's biography here because
Elizabeth and Thomas represent the McCormick family's first generation
in America.
Thomas and Elizabeth had children: Thomas, b. 1727, married Jean Oliver.
James, William, born 1732, married Mary Wiggins. Hugh, born 1735, married
Catherine Sanderson. Robert, born 1738, married Martha Sanderson. Elizabeth,
born 1740, married Matthew Loudon.
